In 1708 porcelain was fired for the first time in Europe, with Meissen, the first European porcelain manufactory, becoming operative soon after in 1710. The year 2010 thus officially marks the 300th anniversary of the reproduction of “white gold” on the Old Continent
To celebrate the occasion, Porzellanikon Selb and Hohenberg a.d.Eger, Europe’s biggest porcelain museum, is staging “From a King’s Dream to Mass Production. 300 Years of European Porcelain”, the biggest porcelain exhibition ever seen in Europe. Covering 3,500 square metres, the exhibition features over 1,000 exhibits, including works loaned by international institutions from 17 countries. Elaborate settings, the use of modern media, opulent themed displays, precious porcelain exhibits of stunning design, the like of which has never been seen before under one roof, make this celebratory exhibition a truly unique event.
The exhibition opens to the general public on 25th April 2010.
