German Porcelain Museum –
the historical villa
The German Porcelain Museum is situated in the beautiful gardens of the old villa which was once the home of a Hutschenreuther director. A 2,000 square-metre extension was added on to the Museum in the 1990s in modern architectural style and today showcases 12,000 porcelain pieces from the last 300 years from German-speaking countries. The focus is on work from the 19th and 20th centuries.

The “From a King’s Dream to Massed Production” anniversary exhibition begins here in a Baroque setting and takes you on a journey through time, through Rococo and Neoclassical style, through Empire, Biedermeier and Historism to Art Nouveau and Art Déco. Sophisticated exhibition architecture transports you to the sumptuous worlds of the royal court and the upper middle-class at a time when porcelain was still synonymous with wealth and pomp. Exhibits include prized showpieces from world-famous museums, royal collections and traditional manufactories.
